Special Camp Scholarship Appeal

    This article is the most recent ministry update from the WOL Hungary Director, Alex Konya. The article itself was written by Laci Kádár (“Laci” is pronounced “Lotsy”), who is a Hungarian, the WOL Hungary Camp Director, and will be a third-year student at Dallas Theological Seminary in the Th.M. program this fall.

Seven more weeks, and the Hungarian Word of Life Camp will open for the 16th time. Soon the summer dining room will look just like the picture on the right, packed with campers and summer staff. The interest for the camp, thankfully, is great. A lot of non- Christian families are considering it as an option for their children, because of the high quality sport and language instruction and because of our very low camping fee.  As a result, each year around a thousand kids come and hear the gospel; each year hundreds of them trust in Jesus Christ for their salvation.

The weekly cost of $100 may not seem like much for an American, and it is also affordable for many Hungarian families. Unfortunately,  for many kids and parents a week in the WOL camp is a dream that is beyond their reach. Children of pastors, those with divorced parents, and orphans from the many state homes are just a few categories of kids who cannot afford a week of camp.

In Hungary, the vast majority (some estimate 97% or more) of the population are not born-again believers in Christ. There are no gospel preaching churches in most towns and villages, and for many kids our camp is the only place where they can hear the message of Christ or grow in their faith.

We are continually receiving requests for camp scholarships from needy people. Just recently, I got a message from a Gypsy church plant (Gypsies are the poorest of the poor in our land) that would love to send ten of their young people to our camp, but cannot pay for their way.

We want to help as many kids and parents as possible, but to do this, we ourselves need help. Would you please prayerfully consider if you could help one or more needy Hungarian kids with a scholarship of $50 to $100? Your investment could literally make an eternal difference in the life of that child.
